VINCI to build 3rd quay at container terminal in port of Lomé, Togo
28 February 2012 - New contracts - Togo
Bolloré Africa Logistics has just awarded VINCI the contract to plan and build the 3rd container berth in the port of Lomé, in Togo.
The works, worth €42.5m, will be carried out by a consortium composed of three Group subsidiaries: Soletanche Bachy (leader), Sogea-Satom and EMCC.
Starting in May 2012, the works should take 18 months to complete. They will involve creating a 450 metre-long quay wall using the "combi-wall" method (steel tubes and sheet piling). Its construction will require 1,900,000 cu. metres of dredging works. The project will make way for the installation of the quay equipment, crane and gantry rails.
With this extension, Togo, which should enjoy an estimated growth rate of more than 4% in 2012, will have one of the most efficient ports in West Africa, capable of handling the latest generation of container ships and encouraging the development of transhipment operations in the direction of neighbouring ports and the countries in its hinterland.
