VINCI brings into service the first PPP motorway in Slovakia
27 October 2011 - Projects update and handover - Slovakia
VINCI announces the opening, on 28 October 2011, of the first three sections of the R1 expressway, known as PR1BINA, in Slovakia. This is the first motorway infrastructure project to be undertaken on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis in Slovakia.
The project was awarded in August 2009 to the GRANVIA consortium headed by VINCI Concessions, with a participation of 50%. The contract covers the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance, for a period of 30 years, of a 2x2-lane road, its total length of 52 km divided into four sections, located to the east of Bratislava and linking the towns of Nitra and Tekovské Nemce. It also includes a bypass section of the town of Banská Bystrica, which will open to traffic in July 2012.
The new PR1BINA expressway will contribute to the modernising of the Slovakian motorway network, providing users with greater safety and better driving conditions and driver comfort. It will also contribute to the development and overall appeal of this region. This project brings together the expertise of VINCI Concessions (project design and financing and operations) and that of Eurovia (transport infrastructure construction).
Over a period of 25 months, more than 2,500 people have worked to create the more than 500 engineering structures making up the first three sections of a project with a total value approaching 900 million euros.
The operation and maintenance of the new infrastructure, for a period of 30 years, will be supplied by GRANVIA Opération, a 100%-owned subsidiary of VINCI Concessions.
