VINCI opens Germany's first concession motorway
7 September 2010 - Projects update and handover - Germany
VINCI announces the opening to traffic of the A4 “A-Modell” motorway section in Thuringia, one year ahead of schedule. This is Germany’s first motorway concession, carried out under a 30-year public-private partnership. It covers one of the biggest motorway corridors crossing Germany from west to east.
The contract was one of four pilot concession projects, known as “A-Modell”, launched by the German government in 2005. It was awarded in October 2007 to the Via Solutions Thüringen consortium, in which VINCI Concessions has a 50% interest. The contract comprises operating a 45 km section between the Gotha interchange and the border between Thuringia and Hesse, and includes widening 24.5 km from four to six lanes.
The project combines VINCI Concessions’ expertise in designing, financing and managing transport infrastructure with Eurovia’s expertise in road building in Germany.
VINCI is also participating, under another “A-Modell” contract, in the construction and operation of a section of the A5 motorway between Malsch and Offenburg in Baden-Württemberg.
In total, VINCI generated revenue of over €1.9 billion in Germany in 2009.
