World altitude record for a diaphragm wall

Participating in the construction of the Pascua Lama gold mine, located in the Andes Cordillera some 500 km to the north of Santiago, Soletanche Bachy Chile, a subsidiary of Soletanche Freyssinet (VINCI Construction), has created a 5,600 sq. metre diaphragm wall at the recordbreaking altitude of 4,050 m. Completed in 10 months, this structure in plastic concrete will make it possible to recover, for subsequent treatment, water contaminated by mining operations.
