Wastewater tunnel beneath the Thames tideway
1 October 2015 - New contracts - United Kingdom
VINCI Construction Grands Projets (40%) and Bachy Soletanche Ltd (20%), a subsidiary of VINCI Construction, in a joint venture with Costain (40%), signed an €858 million contract on 24 August 2015 for the implementation of the East works package of the Thames Tideway Tunnel programme in London. Work will start in the course of 2016 on the construction of this 25 km-long new tunnel, which is notably intended to limit the amount of untreated wastewater discharged into the Thames. The East works package, one of three making up the project, concerns the construction of two sections of tunnel, 5.5 km and 4.6 km in length, for rainwater and wastewater to the east of the capital. The contract also includes the construction of five large shafts, maritime works in the Thames estuary, structures connecting with the existing wastewater collection system and electromechanical works packages. This project follows on from the Lee Tunnel project, on which teams from VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche Ltd have been working in the east of London since January 2010 and which is scheduled for handover in late 2015.
