Vasco de Gama bridge turns 25
30 June 2023 - Events - Portugal
Vasco de Gama bridge in Lisbon, which turned 25 this year, is 17 km long, was built from 1994 to 1998 by VINCI and Mota-Engil, and will be operated by Lusoponte (VINCI Highways/VINCI Concessions) until 2030.
VINCI Highways increased its stake in Lusoponte in 2022 and so far more than 543,7 million vehicles have used the bridge – which was once considered Europe’s longest – to cross the Tagus in both directions. It was built to ease congestion on 25 de Abril bridge – which VINCI Highways also operates – and to spur development on the river’s southern bank. Some 3,300 people worked on its construction, which was completed on time.
