Two Polish roads handed over in time for Euro 2012

On 3 and 4 June 2012, section A of the A2 motorway, between Stryków and Konotopa, and the Gniezno-Poznań stretch of the S5 expressway were opened to traffic, ready for motorists during football's Euro 2012, which began on 8 June in Poland and Ukraine. A joint venture formed by Eurovia Polska, leader, and Warbud (VINCI Construction) was charged with the earthworks, engineering structures, roadways and safety equipment of section A of the A2 motorway. Launched in August 2011, the works on this 29 km section involved 2,800 employees, and saw some 8,000 t of mix being deployed each day during the peak construction period. All works on this section, worth a total of 200 million euros, will be handed over in October 2012. The Gniezno-Poznań stretch (20 km) of the S5 expressway, meanwhile, created by a consortium composed of Eurovia Polska, leader, Eurovia CS, Warbud (VINCI Construction) and Hochtief Polska, was brought into service a month ahead of schedule. Lasting 31 months, the works here involved more than 2 million cubic metres of earthworks, the creation of 24 engineering structures and the deployment of 420,000 t of mix; total value: 100 million euros.
