Supplying Kampala with drinking water
7 September 2017 - New contracts - Ouganda
The National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has awarded Sogea-Satom (VINCI Construction International Network) a contract for pipes to carry drinking water treated in the town of Katosi to the country’s capital, Kampala.
The pipes (DN700 - DN1,400) will extend over a distance of 53 km, including 11 km of pressure line with a pressure-boosting station, and a 15,000 cu. metre storage facility. This project will be subject to a number of major constraints, such as the pipes having to pass through an urban environment already crowded with existing networks, and works having to be performed while maintaining traffic flow.
On completion of the project, NWSC will be able to send twice as much drinking water to the capital thanks to this northern route (at the moment, 240,000 cu. metres/day are being transported there from the Ggaba treatment plant, to the south of the city, which has been refurbished by Sogea-Satom).
The works, launched in July 2017, will take 24 months.
