Restoring ecological continuity in the Aude department

On behalf of the association responsible for the basin of the Fresquel river, Equo Vivo (VINCI Construction Terrassement) teams are demolishing a shutter dam in Pennautier, in order to restore the Fresquel’s ecological continuity.

At the same time, work is under way on the hydromorphological restoration of the watercourse, involving reprofiling the riverbed, restructuring the island and the access channel to the mill in Pennautier, and measures to protect the banks. The project also provides for the installation of a footbridge and urban furniture, and much planting. As a result of these various works, it will be possible to diversify the flow, recreate a variety of habitats, allow sediments and fish-free passage, improve the water quality and reduce the impact of repeated high-water events. The works, launched in October 2019, will be completed this autumn.
