18 April 2013 - Events - France

In Bordeaux (west of France), the Jacques Chaban-Delmas lift bridge linking the city’s Bacalan (left bank) and Bastide (right bank) neighbourhoods was officially inaugurated on 16 March 2013. To mark the occasion, numerous events were organised throughout the weekend, on the bridge and nearby, including a firework display, a sail-past by the old tall ship Le Belem, races, shows and activities…

The bridge was opened to traffic on 18 March. It provides 2 x 2 traffic lanes, 2 lanes reserved for public transport and 2 footbridges for pedestrians, cyclists and people with reduced mobility. Costing €156m, this project was implemented on a design-build basis by GTM Sud-Ouest TP GC, leader, GTM Sud (VINCI Construction France subsidiaries) and Dodin Campenon Bernard (VINCI Construction) with Cimolai (steel structure) and Egis/JMI, in association with Michel Virlogeux, the Architecture et Ouvrages d’Art (AOA) consultancy and Hardesty & Hanover for the design side. In addition, Sept Résine and Interdesco (Eurovia) created the road carpet, using a resin-based waterproofing compound, Eurovia Gironde applied the mix on the bridge’s concrete access roads, and Moter (Eurovia) supplied the technical embankment and surface development works on either side of the structure. And local VINCI Energies business units were also involved.
