Removing a dam

VINCI Construction Terrassement and its subsidiary Navarra TS are once again demonstrating their ecological development expertise during the project to eliminate the Chat-Cros dam, in the Évaux-les-Bains region (central France).

The client wanted to “erase” the structure from the landscape, to dismantle it and to demolish the nearby water treatment plant in order to return the site to its original state. A stage-by-stage approach is required to achieve this: earthworks, lowering the water level, demolition, dredging, draining and drying the sediment and, finally, the hydromorphological restoration of the watercourse. Throughout these operations, the water from the dam will be filtered in settling ponds before being discharged to the environment.
