New record for a cable-stayed span in sight for Freyssinet

Freyssinet, a Soletanche Freyssinet subsidiary (VINCI Construction), has just signed a contract with Hyundai Engineering & Construction-SK Engineering & Construction Joint Venture to supply and install the stay cables and dampers of the Sultan Yavuz Selim Bridge, the third bridge over the Bosphorus in Istanbul.

With a central span of 1,408 m, the new structure will have a 58 m-wide deck carrying two times four traffic lanes and two railway tracks. The deck will be supported by a hybrid suspension system comprising 176 stay cables and 2 suspension cables, 2,420 m in length, to which 34 pairs of suspenders supporting the central part of the deck will be attached. Construction of the bridge, to the north of Istanbul, began in the first quarter of 2013 and will be completed in December 2015.
Installation of the stay cables will start as of September 2014, finishing in July 2015.
