New asphalt for mountain roads
15 September 2017 - Projects update and handover - France
This summer, on behalf of the Haute-Savoie department, Eurovia’s Annecy office created test slabs in Altivia®, a product currently under technical development.
This new type of asphalt for mountain roads was developed cooperatively by Eurovia’s research centre and the technical division of Eurovia’s Centre-Est region. The slabs were installed on the RD 41a, at an altitude of 1,200 m, on Mont Salève, a mountain above Geneva.
The monitoring of these slabs will be carried out jointly, for a year, by the technical services of Eurovia and the department. The temperature of the road is recorded continuously, to a depth of 25 cm, with the help of an autonomous cryopedometer, the Smartvia® Cryo (a connected device for monitoring the thermal behaviour of a roadway, at the surface and within its structure), consultable at a distance by app.
