Linking tram and train tracks
1 December 2016 - Projects update and handover - Germany
Eurovia Germany’s Leipzig and Dresden offices are working on a project to group together tramway and railway tracks in Chemnitz (Saxony), the aim being to create direct links between the city and its outskirts.
The works, which will extend into 2020, comprise several phases, during which 226 km of track will be laid for use by dual-system trains (electric and diesel engines).
The teams are currently working on the second phase, i.e. the construction of a 600 m-long tramway track, a turning loop and two sidings, as well as the renewal of the networks and roadworks. On completion of these works, in December 2016, the joint venture will participate in the calls for tenders for the subsequent phases.
Value of this phase of works: €6m.
