Inauguration of first HSL in Africa
16 November 2018 - Events - Morocco
In Morocco, the high-speed line linking Tangiers and Casablanca was inaugurated on 15 November 2018, in the presence, notably, of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, French President Emmanuel Macron and Xavier Huillard, Chairman & CEO of VINCI.
The Moroccan National Railways Office had awarded Sogea Maroc (VINCI Construction International Network) the construction, on a general contracting basis, of the stations in Tangiers and Kenitra, as well as the civil engineering (railway bridges and footbridges).
Within the framework of another contract, Mobility and VINCI Energies in Morocco (VINCI Energies International & Systems), in a joint venture with Systra, undertook the design-build of the electrical substations/ transformers along the line, as well as various engineering tasks aimed at ensuring the operational safety of the entire Tangier-Casablanca line.
Brought into service in November, the line has reduced the journey time between Tangier and Casablanca from 4 hours 45 minutes previously down to just 2 hours 10 minutes.
