Ground improvement in Raceland

Menard USA and Bermingham, both Soletanche Freyssinet subsidiaries (VINCI Construction), have been awarded the soil reinforcement works at the Genesis site in Raceland (Louisiana), where four oil storage tanks are due to be built. The chosen approach is to install 2,000 400 mm CMCs (controlled modulus columns), 42 m in depth. Menard having never before worked to such specifications, two special supports for deep CMCs have had to be designed and manufactured.
Contract value: US$8 million.
