Foundations for offshore wind turbines in Belgium

On 28 June 2012, Geosea, a sub- sidiary of DEME, a CFE company (VINCI Construction), secured a contract for the construction and installation of the foundations for the Northwind wind-turbine project, off the Belgian coast. The project calls for the creation of 73 steel monopiles, forming the foundations for the wind turbines and the transformer station.
In a joint venture with Tideway (another DEME subsidiary), Geosea will then lay the cables linking the wind farm's various wind turbines together. The company will also participate in the installation of the 72 tur- bines. Work on the foundations will start in spring 2013.
The Northwind wind farm, with a generating capacity of 216 MW, will be able to supply the power required by 250,000 households as of the end of 2013.
Total value of the contracts for Geosea: €230 million.
