Flooding of the Pannecière Dam
18 March 2013 - Projects update and handover - France
The Pannecière Dam, on the Yonne (central France), was flooded on 4 February 2013. This structure, 49 m in height and over 350 m in length, was brought into service in the early 1950s; it has now been refurbished, after the 80 million cubic metres of water it contained had been completely drained. Undertaken by Freyssinet, a Soletanche Freyssinet subsidiary (VINCI Construction), the works involved various repairs, strengthening the dam against seismic risk, renewing the waterproofing and improving the stability of the structure. Other Group companies participated in the project: VINCI Construction Terrassement, which built the dike, upstream, separating the dam from the waters of the lake, and MTS, a Freyssinet subsidiary, which supplied the asbestos removal works on the upstream face of the dam.
