First reversible traffic lane in a European capital
8 February 2019 - Projects update and handover - Estonia
Teams from TREV-2 Grupp (Eurovia in Estonia) recently redeveloped Gonsiori Street, one of the main roads connecting the suburbs of Tallinn, the capital, with the city centre.
A ‘reversible’ lane was installed, which can be assigned to traffic in one direction at certain times and, at others, to traffic in the opposite direction. Drivers are informed whether the lane is open or closed to them by a special traffic light. Two other lanes are dedicated to public transport and electric vehicles.
This solution has a positive environmental impact, because the reversibility favours public transport, pedestrians and cyclists, thus limiting traffic jams.
The works were completed in late 2018.
