Extending the US embassy

Thanks to the redevelopment of adjoining 19th century buildings, the US embassy in Budapest will be able to expand its surface area by 1,600 sq. metres. The project is being implemented on a general contracting basis by HBM, a Soletanche Freyssinet subsidiary (VINCI Construction), together with CFE Hungary (VINCI Construction). It involves replacing the existing internal framework, in steel and reinforced concrete, with a new framework. During the intermediate phase, the façades of the buildings being rehabilitated are held together by a temporary, 150 t steel structure installed inside the buildings.
The works are due for completion in May 2014.
