Extending the Cairo metro
1 February 2017 - New contracts - Egypt
ETF (Eurovia), as part of a joint venture notably including Orascom Construction, has signed a contract to extend Line 3 of the Cairo metro towards the west bank of the Nile.
The works involve 17.7 km of track, along which 15 stations – eight underground, five overhead on viaducts and two at ground level – and a light maintenance depot will be created.
ETF is charged with the design, supply and laying of the track, which will have a power-supply third rail. With the line featuring slab track with bi-block sleepers in the tunnels, track laid on beams directly fixed to the viaducts and, finally, ballasted track with concrete or timber sleepers on the other sections, three laying methods will be used.
Contract value: €70m.
