Eurovia invents Power Road®, the positive energy road

On 16 October, Eurovia announced the launch of the Power Road® process, which adds a new function to roads: the production of thermal energy.

Captured from the effect of solar radiation on the road, such energy can be stored and then supplied to nearby buildings and infrastructure via a heat pump system.

The energy thus produced contributes to the heating of residential buildings, office blocks, commercial complexes, eco-neighbourhoods and public facilities such as swimming pools, improving their energy mix.

In winter, this energy can also be used for removing snow and ice from roads and airport runways, reducing the need for salting operations. In summer, the collection of surface heat is a way of cooling roadways, thus reducing the effects of urban heat islands.
