Eurovia building up the motorway network
17 June 2016 - Projects update and handover
Having created the PR1BINA expressway (operated by VINCI Concessions), inaugurated in 2011 to the west of Bratislava, in Slovakia, Eurovia has been continuing to reinforce the road infrastructure in this country, a transit hub in the heart of Europe.
Following three years of works, the joint venture composed of Eurovia SK, Eurovia CS and Stavby Mostov Slovakia (VINCI Construction International Network) has completed the construction of a major section of the D1 motorway, which will cross Slovakia from east to west between Austria and Ukraine. With a contract value of €126 million, this section notably comprises the largest motorway service station and, among the section’s 16 bridges, the largest motorway viaduct in the country.
As part of a consortium notably including SMP CZ (VINCI Construction International Network), Eurovia is also building a major stretch of the D3 motorway, an important link in a network reaching the Polish border to the north and providing access to Hungary and Austria to the south. This 4.3 km-long section will feature 127 engineering structures, including an extremely technical bridge; the works are worth a total of €255 million.
The improvements to the Slovak road network will make it possible, by 2020, to cross central Europe both speedily and safely; they will encourage the development of tourism by facilitating access to border crossing points.
