Entry into service of satellite toll system
1 April 2016 - New contracts - Belgium
On 1 April 2016, Belgium brought into service a new satellite toll system, Viapass, for heavy goods vehicles of over 3.5 t, thus enabling Axxès, a VINCI Concessions subsidiary, to deploy its electronic toll collection system in the country. Axxès has gained official approval for its system, for which a fleet of 270,000 heavy goods vehicles is already equipped, enabling them to electronically pay toll charges in France, Spain and Portugal, and for using tunnels such as the Liefkenshoek (managed by VINCI Railways) in Belgium and the Herrentunnel in Germany. Axxès applied for certification as of January 2016, in collaboration with Viapass; since then, the company has come successfully through the four phases of tests for the approval of its GPS OBU (On-Board Unit), and the certification of its back-office functions. Axians Mobile Solutions Nivelles (VINCI Energies Europe) also participated in this project in 2015-2016, installing On-Board Unit distributors at more than 90 sites, mainly on the Belgian borders; value of this operation: €1.7m.
Thanks to the Europe-wide interoperability it provides, Axxès has increased the size of its fleet by 10% since the start of 2016.
