Within the framework of the Northern Interceptor project, aimed at increasing the wastewater treatment capacity of the city of Auckland, Fletcher Construction has appointed Spiecapag Australia and its subsidiary HDI Lucas (both Entrepose/VINCI Construction) to undertake six horizontal directional drilling operations, over a total distance of nearly 5 km and with a diameter of 8 (fibre optics) to 22 inches.

Despite difficult winter conditions, the first three operations were carried out successfully between July and late September, in Te Wharau Bay. The teams then began preparing to tackle the longest operations, in the heart of the port of Waitemata.
